Open Innovation

Open Innovation

A flexible space for students to explore ideas and experiment with emerging technologies.

Open Innovation is the Lab’s year-round lane for curiosity-driven building. Students can work on their own ideas, try new tools, and develop early concepts with light support from the Lab.

Self-Directed Projects

Have an idea you want to explore on your own? Self-directed projects offer:

  • A simple structure to keep you moving

  • Light mentorship and optional office hours

  • Access to Lab resources when appropriate

  • A chance to showcase your work at Demo Nights

A short application is required so we can understand your goals and ensure good alignment with the Lab’s focus areas.

Badger Build Fest (Fall)

A 24-hour sprint that brings students together to explore AI, cloud, blockchain, XR, and more. It’s one of the easiest ways to get involved and often a launch point for self-directed and Venture Discovery projects.
